Living Large When Your Life Feels Small

Five Steps to Larger Living

5-week Virtual Retreat for Women
Saturdays, July 11 – August 8, 2020

The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

We’re living in strange uncertain times. Isolated by the pandemic, unable to travel and enjoy time with loved ones, working from home or out of work, anxious about our health and the health of those we love . . . and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

All true.  However, what if this pandemic . . .

gave you an opportunity to help make the world a better place.

provided you with the time to re-evaluate the priorities in your life.

opened a space where a new, more meaningful life could be born.

gifted you with time for reflection so you could envision and step into a larger, more vibrant you!

When wisdom, peace, contentment, and insights become our motivation, then taking a walk in nature, giving thanks for simple things, listening to beautiful music, reading an inspiring book, volunteering for a local charity . . . can move our lives from mindless activity to restoration and awakening.

When we carve out some breathing space in our busy world, allowing our to-do list to sit in a drawer, then we are taking steps toward living more full and meaningful lives.  From living small to living large.

And then, what is ordinary can become extraordinary.

Reflecting on the past six months, take a few moments to see if you can identify . . .

1. Books you read or listened to that enlightened your spirit, confidence, knowledge and wisdom?

2. Hours you spent in quiet contemplation?

3. 2 or 3 things you did that you had never done before?

4. Hours you’ve walked in nature?

5. Concerts, art events, seminars, workshops or other enriching experiences you attended?

If you struggled to answer these questions quickly, then it is possible that you are living a life too small for you . . . and if you’re interested in using this time to step into a larger life, then join us.  Even in the middle of a pandemic, maybe especially in the middle of a pandemic.

STEP ONE: Embracing the Little Things with Karen Ely*

Enjoy the little things in life because one day
you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.
~ Kurt Vonnegut

Life is in the little things. Those fleeting moments when we tell someone we love them, when we hug a friend, when we buy ourselves flowers “just because,” when we choose chocolate over kale, when we stop to smell a flower, when we notice a sunset, when we are silly and playful. These are the moments that give our lives meaning and affect the way we engage in our world. Are there little things in your life that you might be overlooking?

STEP TWO: Befriending What Makes Your Heart Sing with Beth Bryce*

If you want to know if you love yourself enough,
ask yourself how much time you take to do what you love to do.
~ Joan Chittister

When you take time to immerse yourself in opportunities that make your heart sing, then you not only lift up yourself but begin a ripple effect that lifts up those around you. Living a life filled with experiences, people, pastimes and opportunities that make your heart sing not only creates a life of meaning and largeness for you but helps create a world that sings. What makes your heart sing and how can you engage it more often?  Click here for information on Beth.

STEP THREE: Dedicating Yourself to Making a Difference with Karen Ely*

You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you
in your own way can illuminate the world.
~ Oprah Winfrey

To live large is to view our life in the context of a purpose larger than ourselves. Often we find ourselves too absorbed in our day-to-day busyness and often too self-referent to step outside of ourselves. However, we can uplift our body, mind and spirit and help to uplift causes we believe in by dedicating time to a purpose that we care about. Even a few hours each month has the potential to solve a piece of the world’s problems. And spending that time might provide you with a reason to jump out of bed each morning with a smile on your face, knowing that you are truly making a difference. What causes deeply touch your heart?

STEP FOUR: Living Well in the Moment with April Ely*

Nothing is more precious than being in the present moment.
Fully alive, fully aware.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh

We love to look forward to celebrating the biggies of life ~ graduations, births, weddings, international travel ~ but we also need to notice, honor and enjoy the mundane moments that show up in our daily lives. It is these moments woven together that create our life’s tapestry and we can miss it completely if we don’t take time to stop doing so that we can begin being. What practices might help you live more fully in the present moment?  Click here for information on April.

STEP FIVE: Listening to Your Inner Music with Karen Drucker*

Only when your inner voice sings with love
will your outer world dance with joy.
~ Debasish Mridha

Discovering our own unique rhythm rather than waiting for the background music to kick in will introduce you to the amazing woman you already are. You are so much more than your age, then what you do for a living, then where you live and who you live with . . . you can create your own music and live to its beat, creating a life of beauty and largeness. And then your outer world will dance with joy. Can you hear the whispers of your heart calling for you to listen?  Click here for information on Karen Drucker.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist.
~ Oscar Wilde
